Reddit user u/imherecuziwanttobe recently asked people on the platform to help them decipher a certain toy.
The teen, who is likely around 13 or 14, revealed that they first got the toy from a mystery bin in the first grade. Now, as an 8th grader, they still have no clue what it is:
If you were born n the ’80s or ’90s, I think it is pretty safe to say that you don’t even need to see this side to know what it does:
It is a popper! You turn them inside out, set them down, and they fly up in the air (or sometimes across the room), making a loud “POP!” — hence the name.
Yes, it may be hard to believe, but this was PRIME entertainment back in the day. And although they were clearly a big safety hazard, Reddit users agree they were the “fidget spinners of the ’90s.” Here are the stories they had to share:
“Never stick it to your forehead, or you’ll end up with a giant hickey on your face that looks like you stuck a vacuum hose to it. Happened to a friend of mine 🙃”
“That is a projectile. You turn it inside out and aim it at a friend, and after a second or so, it’ll launch itself at absurd speeds! There’s roughly zero accuracy to be had with it, so it’s fun for the whole family right up until it takes some unfortunate sap’s eye out.”
“When I was six, I got the cops called on my mom cause I put it on my eye (why????) and got a black eye. The cop believed I did it to myself after I proudly showed him the one that was also on my belly button 🤦🏼♀️.”
“One of my sons suctioned one to his head during a game of UNO. Then his brother did it as he was developing the resultant bruise in the middle of his forehead. We have allowed neither to live it down.”
“I put it on my forehead as a kid, too 😭! I didn’t notice it left a mark until my mom came into my room and freaked out, ‘What happened to your forehead!?!?!’ I had like six different circles because I was absentmindedly pushing it to my forehead when I was doing my homework 😂. School was rough the following week 😅.”
