IT: Welcome to Derry is the prequel that Stephen King fans have been waiting for, and it’s arriving just in time for Halloween.
The full trailer just dropped, and it’s just as scary (if not scarier) than you imagined. It and It Chapter 2 director Andy Muschietti is the mastermind behind the upcoming HBO original series, so audiences already have an idea of the terror to come. The cast includes Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, and the legendary Bill Skarsgård reprising his role as the menacing Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
The show is set in 1962 in the seemingly picturesque town of Derry, Maine, which we all know is far from that.
We meet a family who has lived on a military base for almost a decade and decides to rent a home in the idyllic Derry community because they’re looking for “a little taste of normal.”
Things inevitably take a dark turn as stories of missing children circulate, which prompts a new group of kids to start their own investigation.
At one point, this eerie question gets asked, and it will promptly send shivers down your spine.
The kids head to the sewers, flashlights and all, because what could go wrong?! Hint: everything.
As the trailer continues, an old car is unsurfaced, containing various skeletons to up the creep factor even more.
But the true highlight is the moment Pennywise makes his much-anticipated grand entrance, complete with glowing eyes and his iconic single red balloon.
From there, there’s plenty of frightening laughs, screeching music, blood-curdling screams, flickering lights, ghostly fog, and this nightmare-inducing group.
Plus, blink and you’ll miss this shot of the notorious Neibolt House from 2017’s It reboot.
As the trailer wraps, audiences are left with this startling vision of Pennywise that’s sure to linger with us until the series debuts next month.
