Following reports of the shooting, news of Kirk’s death was shared by Donald Trump on his Truth Social account.
“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie,” Trump wrote. “He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”
Recently, while speaking at a 9/11 event at the Pentagon, Trump announced that he plans to award Kirk with the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously, calling him a “giant of his generation.”
“I have no doubt that Charlie’s voice and the courage he put into the hearts of countless people, especially young people, will live on. I am pleased to announce that I will soon be awarding Charlie Kirk posthumously the Presidential Medal of Freedom…I can only guarantee you one thing, that we will have a very big crowd,” Trump said.
