Cate Blanchett Explained The Wild Reason She Only Has One Picture From When She Got Married

Cate Blanchett Said She Only Has One Wedding Photo

Cate Blanchett’s wedding sounded like it was so much fun that the guests forgot something pretty essential.

For reference, Cate and her husband, Andrew Upton, have been married since 1997. They have four children, 3 sons: Dashiell, 24, Roman, 20, and Ignatius, 17, as well as a 10-year-old daughter called Edith.

In an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show this week, Cate sat down to discuss her long marriage — and her eventful wedding day. “It’s a miracle!” she exclaimed, to still be married to “the same person for 27 years.”

She then went on to describe their wedding, and why she is able to recall the day so well. “When we got married, we had absolutely no money,” Cate explained. “We couldn’t have a photographer, and we had two friends who were photographers.”

But despite having friends who came equipped, Cate and Andrew still weren’t able to get some good snaps. “One guy who got so drunk he forgot to load film in the camera,” she said. “And the other one had such a good time he didn’t take any pictures. And as a result, we have one picture of our wedding.”

And while Cate is laughing about the situation now, it’s still pretty wild. She described the singular photo itself as a “blurry picture of the two of us getting in the car,” which is probably not the romantic memento she was hoping for. “I was so sad and upset and I wept at the time that we didn’t have any pictures.”

“But in the end,” she continued, “I’m quite pleased that I don’t have any pictures because I then constantly try and recall the evening.” Which, to be fair, is super cute.

I need to know when they realized there was no film in the camera. Was the guest walking around taking empty snaps all night? So many questions. Leave yours down in the comments below. Meanwhile, you can catch Cate’s full appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show here.
