“I went on a trip to Santo Domingo with a colleague (European, white), and we have been working in a nonprofit organization in Haiti. While walking one day, we started talking about our favorite night spots in Port-au-Prince (this was 10 years ago), and I mentioned that I preferred the bars where you could interact with locals, while she preferred the ones that catered exclusively to ‘expats.’ When I asked why, she said she doesn’t like seeing ‘prostitutes’, and I’m like, so, why would that bother you? They’re just working, she went on and on about her religion (Catholic), how they shouldn’t be prostitutes, and that they should seek another job!”

“I exploded, telling her how she would know that they didn’t try? Maybe they did? And this is the only thing they found to feed themselves and their families! Needless to say, I made sure to tell her that I despise women who judge other women, especially privileged women from developed countries who would judge women living in poverty in one of the poorest countries on the planet!”
