As a woman, I’ve grown up my whole life being told to follow “Girl Code.” But now that I think about it, I don’t think anyone has ever told me explicitly what any of the rules are.
Now, in one Reddit thread (which you can see here), women are discussing this very subject and sharing their non-negotiable rules. I’ve compiled the most popular responses for you below.
Here’s what 16 women said:

“It doesn’t matter who they are; if you have a spare tampon or pad, you give it to them.”
2.
“If another woman pretends to know you, go along with it. You may just be saving her life.”
3.
“If another woman’s man is after you, do not take him from her just because you can.”
4.
“Know the difference between hyping her up in a good way and enabling behavior that could hurt her. There are different ways to provide support.”
5.
“If you notice your friend is getting too drunk: Cut. Her. Off. Don’t let her get sick or compromise her safety.”
6.
“If you know she’s not safe, tell her. Too many women are killed by their boyfriends, husbands, brothers, sons.”

“From my personal experience, if you see a friend getting excluded from the group, do everything you can to include her. Include her in conversations. Don’t let her be the one walking alone or sitting alone, unless she has asked for that space.”

“This is not a universal thing, but I’m trying to make it part of my code: if I see a girl wearing something super cute, I will tell her. It makes them so happy every time.”
