We Asked People What It Meant To Be Black And British – Here’s What They Said

“Being black and British to me is an identity of so many different cultures and heritages.”

I am Nigerian, I’m firstborn, first generation, and my parents were born in Nigeria, and that’s my lineage. And I think a lot of people in London and in the UK are from so many different parts of the world, especially in Liverpool. There’s a very heavy Caribbean society there. There are a lot of Nigerians who are from Igbo tribe, which is really beautiful, and I think that’s what it means to be black and British. It’s about having those cultures being infused together and celebrating our different cultures and our authenticity authentically.” – Kolade, 25
