“Compared to Australia, housing quality is better in Canada. Insulation, fly screens, better wiring, fewer issues with bugs and mould, more common to see things like storage rooms, usually designed a little more practicality…it’s good stuff. Plus, where I’m at in Australia, several apartment buildings built in the last 10 years have turned out to have dangerous quality issues. I feel like that just wasn’t something I’ve seen in Canada.”
“Oh, and speaking of housing, in Australia real estate agents are allowed to manage rental properties, which IMO is terrible for both renters and people who want to buy houses to actually live in themselves. I know people who own, like, six rental properties in cities they don’t even live in, and I’ve almost never lived in an apartment where I met my own landlord.
It’s common for ‘property investors’ to buy family homes and price out regular people.”
