This Korean Fast-Food Chain And Its Burgers Completely Surprised My Taste Buds

Spoiler: I loved it.

Bingsu is a Korean shaved ice treat usually accompanied by sweet red beans, canned fruit, mochi, condensed milk, and a sprinkle of roasted multi-grain powder. These days, there are bingsus made with a modern touch, from matcha bingsus to oreo cheesecake bingsus, etc.

Anyway, back to the program: This was delicious.

I was handed the Cup Bingsu first in the drive-thru while I waited for the rest of my food. I was given a straw and spoon for it, which confused me, because normally you eat it with a spoon. But since I was in the car, I stuck in the thick straw — the ones made for bubble tea — and sipped. Wow, it was perfect. The shaved ice was milky and sweet, and bits of red bean also made it into my sip. It was creamy, refreshing, and sweet, but not overtly so, and while one would think the bits of red bean coming through would be strange, it wasn’t at all. It just made the sip tastier.

Now, whether this would taste good to someone might depend on whether they’ve actually tried sweet red beans and liked them. I’m sure you can ask to get it without. However, this nailed the classic bingsu taste.

My only qualm was that my drink was missing the mochis, which devastated me. I thought they were on top of the bingsu, but alas, it was just some bits of pear. Having that chewy texture of the mochis, along with the sweet, icy drink, would have given this dessert a perfect score.

My score for the Cup Bingsu: 4.5/5
