I’m a big reader and cinephile. So when I heard that Emerald Fennell was giving us a *reimagined* Wuthering Heights, I immediately read the book to prep for the movie. And yes, while the internet is upset that the film didn’t mirror the book exactly, let’s remember that Emerald never promised it would be the same. In fact, she intentionally told us that it would be quite different!
I loved both the book and the film, and for very different reasons. The book is a stunning exploration of class, race, jealousy, revenge, and generational trauma. The movie feels like a fanfic fever dream, taking the bones of Wuthering Heights and turning it into something vibrant, dramatic, sexy, and entirely new. (NGL, any love story with finger sucking just does it for me!)
