Let’s run it back for L: When Trump ran for president last year, he promised to increase the power of the presidency over independent agencies, concentrating power directly in his hands. He campaigned on promises like tax cuts for “workers” and “no tax on tips,” but in reality, his plan proposed cuts for the wealthiest 5 percent of Americans while raising taxes on everyone else.
His pledge to slash regulations and control independent agencies, like the Federal Trade Commission, meant bringing consumer protection laws under his control. And he’s done exactly that — under Trump, the consumer bureau has dropped at least 22 cases, putting as much as $3 billion in relief for consumers at risk.
