HBO Max has blessed us with some amazing comedy shows over the years: Sex and the City, Veep, Insecure, Barry…the list goes on and on.
One of my latest TV obsessions is HBO Max’s The Chair Company. Co-created by Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin (of SNL glory), the quirky comedy thriller stars Tim as Ron Trosper, an endearing dad and property development manager who goes down a deep, deep rabbit hole investigating a wild conspiracy theory about a chair company. Yes, really.
The premise is just bananas enough to work. Here are 11 reasons The Chair Company should be your new Sunday TV obsession:
1.
It feels like a really long SNL sketch, in a good way.
2.
Andrew DeYoung, who directed Friendship (2024), serves as an EP on the series and directs several episodes, including the pilot.
3.
The cast is absolutely stacked.
4.
There’s also a lot of new talent to get excited about, which is refreshing to see for a major HBO series.
5.
Just like I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson, the series is the perfect blend of cringe comedy and surrealism.
6.
The workplace scenes have a similar vibe to The Office.
7.
The mystery of it all is genuinely intriguing (and unsettling).
8.
The family moments are actually really sweet.
10.
The wardrobe department seriously deserves a raise for capturing that very specific “suburban dad office worker” vibe so succinctly.
11.
And lastly: Tim Robinson absolutely nails it as the ultimate conspiracy theory dad.
