Ryan Reynolds broke his silence on the issues between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.
In late 2024, Blake sued her It Ends With Us director and costar, alleging sexual harassment and retaliation. He has denied the allegations and countersued both Blake and Ryan, accusing them of civil extortion, defamation, and invasion of privacy. A judge then dismissed the suit against the couple, while Blake’s case is set to go to trial in May.
Still, the extent of Ryan’s involvement continues to make headlines. For one, both parties agree that Ryan spoke to Justin about his comments on Blake’s weight — in Blake’s recollection, Ryan spoke to him “briefly,” while Justin’s team has described it as a “humiliating” beration that ended in tears.
Newly unsealed documents further show how Ryan thought about Justin. In an email to Matt and Lucy Damon, sent in 2024, he described Justin as “A malignantly vein, sociopathic FAUXminist with almost no sense of boundaries or shame,” adding, “I cannot believe he hasn’t gone to jail or returned to the sun.”
Perhaps unsurprisingly, given that the case is still in active litigation, Ryan himself has publicly remained fairly quiet on the issue. However, when asked for comment on his “words and deeds” on Blake’s “behalf” for a Puck News piece, a spokesperson for him actually responded.
“Yes Ryan got involved—what husband wouldn’t support his wife and the mother of his children? He saw his wife fighting daily to stand up against sexual harassment in a private and respectful way, only to face retaliation for doing so,” the statement began.
“If anything, Ryan feels like he wasn’t angry enough. He passionately believes in and will stand up for the basic right to a safe workplace free of harassment and retaliation for his wife and others. Then, now, and always,” they continued.
