“Misplaced feelings. I wanted love and physical touch, but my partner had checked out of that 12 months prior. I’d spoken to her many times about why, and if there was anything I could do. The conversations always led to nothing. I should have taken the initiative and ended it there, but instead, I stuck it out — which turned out to essentially just be sharing a rent bill. Eventually, someone outside of my relationship showed interest in me, and I put feelings of wanting love and affection toward that person instead. Honestly, it initially felt great to actually have someone who showed interest and wanted me. But the guilt ate at me pretty quickly, and within a few months, I had to end everything. I stopped the affair and ended my relationship, and started over with a clean slate.”
“From my experience, affairs don’t just happen by accident; they’re led by something. In hindsight, I was incredibly unhappy for years. An affair wasn’t the solution, but it was a little bit of happiness in an otherwise very lonely time in my life.”
