The Daily Beast reported that Cruz, who has served Texas in the US Senate since 2013, was sightseeing in Athens, Greece, when the flooding began. Cruz’s office stated that he returned to Texas “as fast as humanly possible,” but the Daily Beast reported that he could have boarded many flights before the one he eventually took on Sunday.
