At the time, this ad might’ve seemed like an exaggeration. In the 1990s, the average cost of a burger was .84, a hotel room at Disney was under $100, and a car $18,777. Today, though, a burger and fries can easily cost more than $16 in several cities, vacations can average around $7,400, and the average car price is $48,841, with full-sized pickups averaging $64,790.
The creators of the ad said they wrote it using simple calculations. “It was easy to do the math. We took the average rate of inflation and extrapolated out thirty years. Then we wrote the ad,” Todd Heyman told Entrepreneur.com.
