Society loves to tell us what we’re supposed to want. We should want to be rich, famous, get married, have a bunch of kids, and be at the very top of the career ladder. However, for many people, these things are not appealing.
1.
“Extreme wealth. I just want to be comfortable.”
2.
“The need/desire to share everything on social media.”
3.
“Owning expensive things to prove success.”
4.
“A huge wedding. I want courthouse, tacos, and a nap.”
5.
“Designer label stuff. I couldn’t be less interested.”
7.
“A lucrative and successful career so I can become rich and then die wishing I’d spent more time enjoying life.”
8.
“A Disney vacation, sounds like my personal hell.”
9.
“Being busy just to look successful.”
10.
“To be buddies with people at work. If friendship happens naturally, great! Otherwise, I’d rather keep a polite, friendly distance.”
12.
“Climbing a career ladder. I want to find what I’m good at and stay there. Get better at what I’m good at sure, but not try to use it as a stepping stool to something ‘greater’ or ‘better.'”
13.
“I feel like I’ve successfully resisted a huge amount of pressure to get an iPad for over a decade now lol.”
14.
“My nails and hair done in a salon every few weeks. I really don’t get the appeal.”
15.
“A romantic relationship.”
16.
“Alcohol. I literally despise it and tastes like vomit. I literally don’t understand what people find exciting about getting drunk and passing out. No thanks…… why purposely put yourself in a paralyzed situation.”
17.
“Going out to clubs, I don’t appreciate getting groped while simultaneously losing my hearing.”
18.
“‘Fitting in.’ I know it’s a wide broad brush to wield but there are a lot of things like clout chasing and superficiality that really put me off.
20.
“Belonging to a religion, it never made sense to me and never will.”
21.
“To be ultra skinny and to give into ‘hustle girl boss’ culture. Like no thanks, I don’t feel like depriving myself of all of the enjoyments of life for monetary gain.
22.
“Plastic injected directly into my face.”
23.
“Authority over others.”
24.
“A fancy, expensive car. Don’t need it. What’s the point? Just to be able to show people I can afford it? The purpose of a car is to get from point A to point B. Does the fact that it costs thousands and thousands of dollars more make a difference in that? And realistically, I’d probably be so paranoid about driving something that luxurious and expensive that I’d never even go anywhere.”
25.
“Being unnecessarily reckless at a young age for the sake of being young.”
26.
“AI in everything. Some things like chat GPT are fine but I don’t need AI in my fridge. Not every device needs to be touched by the AI revolution.”
28.
“A second child. Our family feels so complete with one and we got such an easy baby I don’t want to roll the dice again! When you win the lottery you stop playing.”
29.
“To be into watching sports. I never cared for the Super Bowl, sports betting, etc. and never understood why people get so insanely hyped for it.”
30.
“Being fascinated with celebrities.”
31.
“A huge house. I don’t want the hassle or the responsibility of maintaining a bigger space. Plus I just realistically don’t even need that much room. Truthfully I’d be perfectly content with something spacious yet cozy.”
33.
“Holiday decorations – I just don’t care. Not in a grinchy way, I just can’t be bothered to have a bunch of wreaths or what have you as a middle aged person in the US.”
34.
“Hookups, one night stands, casual s*x.”
35.
And finally, “Constant self improvement. I spent years of my life beating myself up trying to be ‘better’ at everything. Now I feel like, I’m happy with my life and not hurting anyone, why do we always have to “strive’?”
