“Trump’s economy has obliterated our chances of success. All the pet food I carry is made in the US, but the packaging is not. Prices have shot up. There must be manufacturing delays because my distributors are out of stock of so many products that I can’t keep my store stocked. On top of that, tourism is way down, especially international tourism (because why would anyone want to travel to the US right now?), which is critical for Hawaii’s economy. Residents are getting less work and have less disposable income to spend on their pets.”
“They still buy food from me, but margins are low on food. People can’t afford to buy toys and treats that have a higher margin, so in order to pay my bills, I have had to raise the food prices even further. We are teetering on the edge of bankruptcy, and I don’t know if we’ll make it. Business was fantastic last year before Trump got back into the office.”
