Olivia Rodrigo has admitted that she used to write fanfiction about meeting Harry Styles, and has reflected on what it was like actually hanging out with him in adulthood. Needless to say, people couldn’t be more obsessed.
If you need reminding, 22-year-old Olivia’s rise to prominence began in 2016, when she was around 13 years old and starred in the Disney Channel series Bizaardvark. She fully broke into the mainstream in 2021 when she released her debut single “Driver’s License,” and has enjoyed huge success as a pop star ever since.
Meanwhile, Harry, now 31, found fame back in 2010, when he auditioned for the British version of The X Factor and was put in a little band that you may have heard of called One Direction. He released his debut solo album in 2017, a year after One Direction went on an indefinite hiatus.
To put it all into context, Olivia would have been seven years old when One Direction was formed, and during a recent podcast appearance, she admitted that she was writing fanfiction about the band by the age of 10.
Speaking on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s Music Makes Us podcast, the star confessed: “I used to write One Direction fanfiction when I was in elementary school. Many years later, I hung out with Harry Styles, and we, like, got tea, and we walked around.”
“I got home, and I was like: ‘What the fuck?!’” Olivia went on. “Like, I feel like I wrote that in a fanfiction and I, like, lived it. That’s so crazy, how that can happen in your life.”
“And he’s so sweet!” she added. “I don’t want to… I know he’s very private, but I remember being like: ‘If I told 10-year-old Olivia, she’d be like: ‘Shut the fuck up! You’re lying!’”
