For the last two weeks, thousands of people in Iran have been protesting their government. The protests began in Tehran, spurred by high inflation and punishing economic conditions, but they have since spread across the country and become a more general protest of the regime.
Hundreds of protestors have reportedly been killed in Iran, and President Donald Trump has threatened to take action against Iran if more are killed.
However, for Americans who are alarmed by the recent killing of Renee Nicole Good at the hands of an ICE officer, the president’s professed support for protestors in Iran is raising more than a few eyebrows.
Which brings us to Secretary of State Marco Rubio posting something that had everyone saying approximately the same thing.
On Sunday, Rubio tweeted, “The United States supports the brave people of Iran,” and people had notes for him.
“The United States doesn’t even support the brave people of the United States.”
“But if you protest in America you’re an ‘agitator’ who gets shot…”
“The United States shoots the brave people of the United States in the face for briefly inconveniencing fake cops.”
“And the USA kills its own people.”
And finally, “The US supports ‘the people’-right up until the people choose something Washington doesn’t like.”
