Last month, actor Kelsey Grammer’s daughter Greer revealed all about her previous 11-year estrangement with her father, which ended when she was 16 years old.
During an appearance on the Pretty Basic podcast, Greer revealed that she first reconnected with Kelsey at a Christmas tree lot in a chance encounter: “He came up to me and said, ‘Are you Greer?’ And I said, ‘Yes, I am.’ And then he went, ‘I’m – .’ And I was like, ‘I know who you are. Duh.’”

Greer also revealed that she was still working through issues related to the estrangement, even though her and Kelsey’s relationship has been since functionally repaired. “Of course, my therapist was like, ‘Do you remember when you knew that your dad wasn’t a part of your life anymore? Did your mom ever sit you down?’” she said. “And I was like, ‘I don’t think so.’ She was like, ‘You should ask her about that.’ I was like, ‘No. I think my brain’s probably blocking it out for a reason.’”
During the very same interview, Greer also got real about learning the “meanest thing” Kelsey had previously said to her mother Barrie Buckner, who he broke up with in 1992. “He told me this later, but he was like, ‘I told your mom — I asked her, or I said, “It might be better for you to not have my last name,”‘” she recalled Kelsey saying to her.
“I think I was 19 when he told me that, and I just started sobbing, because to me, that was like the meanest thing you could ever say to somebody,” she recalled. “Like, ‘I knew I wasn’t going to be in your life, so I told your mom it would probably be easier for you to not have my last name.'”
Greer also acknowledged that Kelsey might’ve not been “wrong” in his assertion, but she still ultimately kept his last name. “That was always the last name that I had,” she said. “And obviously, it was still from the times that I was younger. My birth was in a press announcement.”
