Kelly Ripa is celebrating 25 years as the host of Live, and in that time, she’s collected a whole load of memorable moments. However, there’s one that tops them all.
In a new interview with Variety, Kelly looked back on the wildest and most shocking experience she’s had on Live, which involved a secret pregnancy and a psychic.
Recalling her first-ever appearance on the talk show on Nov. 1, 2000, before she was officially offered the co-hosting job alongside the late Regis Philbin, Kelly said that she and her husband, Mark Consuelos, had just found out they were expecting their second child.
“The only reason that sticks out in my head is because Mark and I knew we were pregnant,” she said. “We hadn’t told anyone.”
Kelly was filling in for another guest-host who’d dropped out at the last minute, and the producers had given her a heads-up that she’d be interviewing a psychic that day, which made her a little nervous.
“She came out and told the world I was pregnant,” Kelly recalled.
So, this all played out on TV in front of a live audience, and truly, the footage is wild. You literally see the exact moment that Kelly’s soul leaves her body when the psychic, Char Margolis, brings up her late grandmother.
“She watches over your son, and she’s also showing me another baby,” Char says, prompting Kelly to nervously burst into tears. “She says she’s going to watch over you when this new baby comes…You’re not pregnant yet, are you?”
Regis then interjects to ask Kelly if she’s expecting, and totally lost for words, she eventually replies: “I haven’t told my boss yet!”
Of course, this is something Kelly has spoken about before. Back in 2020, she told her Live co-host, Ryan Seacrest, that the whole thing was especially shocking because her appearance on the show that day had been so last-minute.
“It wasn’t like she could research me; I was not supposed to be here!” she recalled, still baffled all these years later.
