Lauren Sanchez Wedding Dress Criticized By Katie Couric
If you didn’t exactly love Lauren Sánchez’s wedding look (or the wedding itself, for that matter), you’re not alone. Katie Couric wasn’t a fan either.
Lauren married Jeff Bezos last night in Venice, Italy, in a custom wedding gown designed by Dolce & Gabbana. Inspired by Sophia Loren’s dress from Houseboat, the lace gown featured long sleeves, a trail of silk chiffon-covered buttons down the front, and a mermaid-style train. It took over 900 hours to make.
For her glam, Lauren wore diamond earrings, a tulle and lace veil, and natural makeup, with her hair swept into an updo. You can see the full look here.
To Katie, it was very “tacky.”
The journalist shared her thoughts after writer Jack Schlossberg posted an Instagram photo of Lauren on the cover of Vogue, showing off the dress.
“Welcome to the eighties—when big hair and conspicuous consumption ruled,” Katie said. “Apparently tacky is back.”
As you can imagine, people were quick to react. One redditor mused, “Teresa Gudice walked so Lauren Sanchez could run!” While another joked, “Katie Couric, I apologize. I wasn’t really familiar with your game.”
A third person said, “You know I’ve never been a big Katie Couric fan. I always put her in kind of an Oprah and Hilary Clinton box where they had an overly curated vibe that kind of put me off. But, this is objectively hilarious and good on her for talking about this tacky ass fiasco.”
Another agreed, “Yeah. Not a fan of that gown,” while someone else said, “You have literally no budget, you could literally take your vows in ‘space,’ and this is what you chose?!”
So far, Lauren hasn’t responded to the remarks, but she told Vogue she felt “like a princess” in the dress.
