Let’s get the obvious out of the way: Kamala Harris very notoriously lost in her bid for US president during the 2024 election. It wasn’t even really that close, and a smart person would assess that the loss itself should result in some very deep soul-searching when it comes to the future of the Democratic party.
Of course, this is the Democratic party we’re talking about, of which Kamala is very much a major face of — so, perhaps it shouldn’t be seen as that surprising that the former US vice president is looking to give it another shot.
In a new interview with the BBC set to air this Sunday, Oct. 26, Kamala suggested that she could still “possibly” be US president one day — and that although she hasn’t made up her mind just yet, she’s definitely considering another run for the gig.
“I am not done,” she said. “I have lived my entire career as a life of service and it’s in my bones.”
The BBC also pressed Kamala on early polling that suggests she’s far from the favorite when it comes to 2028 White House predictions — and her response, if unsurprising, may or may not be a little concerning, depending on what flavor of politics you embrace.
“If I listened to polls I would have not run for my first office, or my second office — and I certainly wouldn’t be sitting here,” she said.
Hmm. OK! Let’s hope her instincts are correct the third time around, I guess…
