I know we live in the “skip intro” era, but theme songs used to be an event — full verses, catchy hooks, and lyrics you couldn’t help but sing. When I was 17, I watched all 10 seasons of Friends with my oldest sister, and we never skipped the intro. We clapped at the clapping parts. We sang every line. It was a part of the entire experience. Theme songs had a magic hold on us — and honestly, it’s an art form worth reviving. But then I got thinking, how well do we actually know our favourite theme songs? And yes, I’m taking word-for-word, verse-by-verse.
So I thought, let’s play a game. It’s basically Two Truths and a Lie — but make it TV Theme Song Edition. Here’s how it works: For each classic theme song, you’ll see three verses. Two are real, one’s a fake. Your job is to pick the outlier. No Googling — just trust your memory, sing in your head, and see if nostalgia has your back. Think you can do it? Listen up…
How’d you do? Drop your score in the comments — and while you’re at it, tell me your all-time favourite TV theme song. It doesn’t even have to have lyrics. Personally, I’m obsessed with the Buffy the Vampire Slayer theme. And as a cult-classic pick, I’ve gotta go with Pretty Little Liars — the show’s not my favourite, but that song is so eerily, deliciously creepy. It gets stuck in my head even though I haven’t seen PLL in a decade. So…they did it right.
