Here Are Some Gems The Internet Blessed Us With This Week

This Week’s Most Hilarious Internet Gems

What you’re about to read is an issue of the Only Good Internet newsletter, which brings you the best stuff that happens around the internet every week. Sign up if you want more!

Welcome to Only Good Internet, where I’m thankful for memes.

If you’ve ever been to Boston, you know that the people there have a special ~je ne sais quoi~ to them. And by that, I mean that they would brutally, relentlessly, and hilariously mock me for saying something like “je ne sais quoi.” I recently came across a Tumblr post that really summed up the experience of dealing with Bostonians, who are simultaneously helpful and mean as hell:

People jumped in to share their experiences being helped+insulted=helpsulted by Bostonians:

What made Bostonians like this, you ask? Well, this Tumblr user has a theory:

…That if we wanted to block out the sun enough to stop global warming, we would need an array of satellites roughly the size of Egypt. Recently, E**n M**k tweeted about how we could combat global warming with an array of satellites:

And someone asked Reddit to do the math and figure out if this would actually work. Enter u/ChironXII, who broke it all down:

The TL;DR is that Elon was partially correct. You could do this, but it would cost trillions of dollars, the solar-powering of them would be technically difficult (if not impossible), and you’d have to do about 40,000 launches to get all of the satellites in orbit, unless you found a way to build them up there. And if you managed to get everything up there and running, you’d still have to maintain the array and eventually replace it. Plus, there’s the very good point that warming isn’t the only problem with anthropogenic climate change. You also have to worry about the acidification of the oceans, for example.

But, it’s kinda nice to know that there’s SOMETHING we could do, since reducing emissions seems to be, ya know, not happening.

This is Chester. He’s an official police dog, and his title is Tactical Potato:

Great, now I’ll never eat curry again:

I always like to finish every week with something that I MUST share with you, because I can’t get it out of my head. This week, it’s all about this World of Warcraft murder line:

That’s all for this week, see you later! And remember, if you want more like this, you can subscribe to the Only Good Internet newsletter (if you want, I mean, don’t let me tell you what to do, ya know?).
