He told us he had no family to contact in case of emergency or to update after surgery. I told him over and over that he was safe and we would keep his identity secure, but he was so afraid he just couldn’t. It was heartbreaking to watch this man go through this alone. He was so brave protecting them, but I also thought about them…no idea if he was okay or would return…”
