“Bourbon Street. Tourists come to New Orleans—and that’s great—but they complain that the city smells like stale beer and vomit. It doesn’t, but Bourbon does. For me, the smell of the French Quarter is sweet olive and jasmine, coffee, and a faint scent of bleach from the early-morning cleaning of the bars. It’s a magical place; don’t sour your experience of it by walking down that shithole street at night, especially on holidays. There are two places worth visiting on Bourbon, Fritzel’s and Galatoire’s.”
