Dry January rolls around every year, and suddenly everyone is either announcing they’re “doing it this time” or loudly explaining why they absolutely are not. I see it all over my feed, in group chats, and at dinner tables, usually accompanied by a lot of opinions. Even for people who are not participating, it still sparks the same curiosity, just like in me. What actually happens to the body when alcohol is taken out of the routine? For anyone taking a break from drinking, whether by choice or circumstance, here’s what the body might start doing once the drinks stop.
1.
Hydration suddenly feels easier once alcohol is out of the picture.
2.
Your liver finally gets a break and IMMEDIATELY starts repairing itself.
3.
Sleep gets worse before it gets much better.
4.
Your stomach finally stops being mad at you all the time.
5.
Your heart finally gets to calm down instead of working overtime.
6.
Your energy stops disappearing for no reason.
7.
Your skin might quietly improve without you changing anything else.
8.
Your weight might change, but not in the way you expect.
After reading all of these, I think I might even consider doing Still Dry, Somehow February. What do you think about these changes? Let me know in the comments!
