Doctors, Nurses, And EMTs Are Sharing Body Facts They Wish Everyone Knew Sooner

10.

“As a woman and PA, I was always very aware of the issues that women face in the medical field (namely, not being taken seriously). But I recently started hospital urology and learned of a different issue — many men don’t take their own bodies seriously! I can’t tell you the number of times a young man comes in days or even weeks after pain onset, but they were too embarrassed to come in, or they thought they could just ride through the pain and be fine, and in the end, they lose functionality or even a body part. There’s nothing noble about riding through pain, and there’s nothing to be embarrassed about — we’ve seen it all.”

“Also, for everyone, if you hit your 40s-50s and start developing bladder problems (peeing too much, too little, or both, losing control, etc.), see a urologist as soon as you can! You really don’t want to be in your 70s with a chronic Foley catheter and recurrent UTIs.”
