She may not have won on the night, but Demi Moore’s road to the 2025 Oscars is one we’ll be thinking about for a long time.

From the moment we first heard about her performance in the graphic body horror The Substance, we were totally intrigued, and when it finally hit cinemas last year, we couldn’t shout loud enough about how good Demi was in it.

Given how reluctant the Academy has been in the past to recognise horror performances, we didn’t take it all that seriously when people first suggested she could be nominated for an Oscar, but if there’s one thing the last year has taught us, it’s to never underestimate Demi Moore, who won a Golden Globe, SAG Award and Critics’ Choice Award for her work in The Substance.

In the end, Demi’s work wound up being added to the long list of incredible performances that deserved an Oscar (congratulations Mikey Madison, btw, you really were amazing, too) only to miss out – but she’s in good company.
