David Jonsson Opens Up About Winning BAFTA’s EE Rising Star Award And Paving The Way For The Next Generation Of Creatives

Speaking to BuzzFeed UK, David reflected on just how much winning the Rising Star meant to him, saying, “I guess in my little career so far, you realise that you don’t need things to validate your work. That’s not the point. But this particular award was about people, and people getting behind your work. And to make work that people see and get behind is all you want to do. So it was a surreal moment. I’m super grateful.”

The latest phase of Set The Stage saw the creatives participate in a week-long immersive programme where they brought their vision to life. David, who joined for a Q&A with the participants, shared just how passionate he is about paving the way for young creatives: “BAFTA really does champion up-and-coming talent. And I think that it’s so important to not just take, but give. Set the Stage is just such a wonderful chance to see young filmmakers come together and try something, do something. Not for the sake of awards, but for the sake of ‘this is what we do’ and you can have a career in this. So I feel honoured to be asked to do this, really.”
