As you may be aware, Christians are currently in the very sacred days of Holy Week. And who better a figure to represent the Christian faith right now than America’s dear leader himself, Donald J. Trump?
Well, those aren’t our words, but the inclination given by Paula White-Cain, Trump’s spiritual advisor, who recently called him “the greatest champion of faith that we’ve ever seen in a president” at an Easter prayer event held at the White House on Wednesday.
Not only that, but she also made an…interesting parallel…between Donald Trump and the man high in the sky, ya know, Jesus Christ himself.
“Jesus taught so many lessons through his death, burial, and resurrection. He showed us great leadership, great transformation requires great sacrifice,” she said, standing in front of Trump. “And, Mr. President, no one has paid the price like you have paid the price. It almost cost you your life.”
“You were betrayed, and arrested, and falsely accused. It’s a familiar pattern that our Lord and Savior showed us,” she said. “But it didn’t end there for him, and it didn’t end there for you.”
“God always had a plan. On the third day, he rose, he defeated evil, he conquered death, hell, and the grave. And because he rose, we all know that we can rise,” she continued. “And, sir, because of his resurrection, you rose up. Because he was victorious, you were victorious.”
“And then, because God is with you and God is using you to defeat evil, to restore families, to awaken the church, to harvest the nations, and to bring a worldwide revival,” she ended, before asking the crowd to stand and stretch their hand to the president and pray.
Obviously, the internet had a lot to say about all this!
Many religious people were offended…
…including this pastor, who called it “blasphemy”:
This person made an excellent point:
Some brought up Paula’s previous but equally controversial statements:
Others called her a “pastortainer”:
This person was bewildered by her choice of outfit:
Folks just couldn’t believe this actually happened:
This person called Trump the “temu antichrist”:
This person called him “the right’s golden calf”:
And finally, many thought it was especially “sickening” to say all this during the week of Easter:
