Catherine O’Hara, the beloved actress and comedy icon best known for her unforgettable roles in Home Alone, Schitt’s Creek, and countless other classics, has died at the age of 71.
According to TMZ, O’Hara passed away on Friday. The cause of death has not been publicly confirmed yet.
O’Hara was a defining figure in comedy for more than five decades, celebrated for her sharp wit, emotional range, and memorable characters. She rose to stardom as part of the groundbreaking sketch comedy series SCTV, where she worked alongside other stars like Eugene Levy, John Candy, and Rick Moranis.
Her film career included performances in Home Alone, Beetlejuice, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. In recent years, she reached new heights of acclaim as Moira Rose on Schitt’s Creek, receiving an Emmy Award in 2020 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Her most recent role saw her appearing alongside fellow Canadian Seth Rogen in The Studio.
O’Hara was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. She met her husband, production designer Bo Welch, on the set of Beetlejuice in 1988. The couple married in 1992 and shared two sons, Matthew and Luke.
Catherine O’Hara left an incredible mark on film and television. She will be deeply missed.
