BuzzFeed: You worked on the East Coast, while many of the cast were in Los Angeles. What was that experience like?
Zach: I was always separate from the rest of the cast, and that’s what I was used to. Other programs that I worked on also worked that way. I think I only had one other session with another actor during the entire period of doing the show.
I didn’t necessarily have the natural “back and forth” as if we were all in the same room together, but the credit goes to Andrea [Romano] for being my scene partner. She would know exactly how the others would react. She had to be every other character and make sure it all sounded coherent. I think she did a great job! People are always surprised to hear that, because it does sound so cohesive. So again — credit to Andrea!
BuzzFeed: When did you first get to meet the cast in person?
Zach: The first time I met the rest of the cast was at the Season 1 premiere party. The first season was all done, and we had a big party at the Nickelodeon Studios in Burbank. That’s one of my favorite memories from the entire show, finally getting to meet all these amazing actors. They had drummers playing the music, and they had Sifu Kisu, who was the martial arts master, doing demonstrations about the bending styles. That was the first time, and I don’t think I really got to see them again until the finale wrap party, a few years later.
It’s been special now as an adult doing these conventions — I’ve been able to really call these people my friends. I love all of them! Now we get to spend some quality time together, and that’s been really special for me.
