Ashley Tisdale explained why she’s publicly no longer going by “Tisdale.”
For context, the 40-year-old first started dating composer Christopher French in 2012, and tied the knot two years later. They share two daughters, aged four and one.
Lately, Ashley has been promoting her lifestyle website, “By Ashley French.” The website’s “about” section reads, “If you already know me, it’s probably from my work as an actress, singer, or entrepreneur. I’m proud of those chapters, but they don’t tell the entire story of who I am today. Now that I’ve entered my 40s, my life looks a little different than it once did…By Ashley French is an introduction to who I am now, and a place where I can share the things that inspire me, ground me, and make everyday life feel a little more meaningful.”
The website continues, “As for the name? When I got married, I took my husband’s last name. This project felt like the perfect moment to embrace this version of myself and celebrate everything that’s come with it.”
In a new video shared on Instagram and TikTok, Ashley confirmed that she’ll be beginning to use the name “French” publicly. She began, “I finally launched By Ashley French. I’ve never really been this intimate before, but I have so much to talk about — especially now in my 40s, having my kids, and being a parent running a company.”

“I’ve been Ashley French for so long at home, but I really never changed publicly, because everyone knows me as Ashley Tisdale, but I just felt like it was time for people to know me, for me, and not just a character or like a celebrity,” she continued. Her brand Frenshe is similarly inspired by her last name.
As for why she isn’t sticking to posting on social media platforms, she continued, “For so long, I have shared so much of my life on social media. I just think Instagram has changed a lot. I should be honest, at this point, you don’t know what’s real, what’s a bot, and everyone has something to say, and it might not be positive. Not that I want to block out the negativity, but I felt like in order to protect my peace, I didn’t want to keep sharing in that way.”
Indeed, though her handle currently has both “Tisdale” and “French” in it, her name reads, “Ashley French.”
