The US citizen was not a target for an ICE arrest, but instead an observer of ICE’s actions in her city, according to CBS News.
Now, Fox News Host Jesse Watters has something to say about Good’s death.
“The woman who lost her life was a self-proclaimed poet from Colorado with pronouns in her bio,” Watters said on Fox News. “A 37-year-old white woman named Renee Good. The Daily Mail says she leaves behind a lesbian partner and a child from a previous marriage.”
He continues, adding, “She was a disruptor, though she considered herself a legal observer. But there’s no evidence she had a law degree.”
Presumably, Watters sourced some of this information from an Instagram account believed to belong to Good. The profile’s bio reads, “🏳️🌈 Poet and writer and wife and mom and shitty guitar strummer from Colorado; experiencing Minneapolis, MN.” Next to her name, the pronouns she/her are listed.
BBC reports that Good had three children — two teenagers and a 6-year-old. At the time of her death, she was married to Rebecca Good, who was present when an ICE agent shot her wife.
Watters is not the only conservative who is inexplicably bringing attention to Good’s use of the pronouns feature on Instagram, or her sexuality.
On the internet, people have been quick to call out this discourse about Good’s personal life and how irrelevant and bizarre comments like Watters’s are. “These people are just the worst people. Heartless, cruel, shameless, dishonest, bigoted,” one person tweeted in response to the viral clip of Watters.
“He wants to make sure that his audience knows that even though she was a white woman and a mother, she was one of the other team, and they aren’t supposed to feel sorry for her. He’s got to spell it out for them.”
“What the fuck is wrong with people? Seeing some no name twitter account say something like this in response to someone dying wouldn’t surprise me but a fucking news anchor? What the actual fuck is happening in this country now? Are we a shitty reality tv show now??”
“Is he insinuating that it’s okay for law enforcement to kill Democrats and/or LGBTQ people? Fucking scary, man. I really feel he’s trying to normalize the police killing civilian political opposition. Like, ‘who cares?’ ‘She’s probably a Democrat anyway.’ This is nuts!”
“This is literally the most vile reporting I’ve ever seen. He’s actually trying to justify murder on the air. Because she had pronouns in her bio and a lesbian partner she it’s ok she was murdered?!”
“She’s white, so he has to emphasize that she’s queer, so his viewers understands her death is acceptable.”
In a recent statement to Minnesota Public Radio, Becca Good described her late wife like this: “Renee sparkled. She literally sparkled. I mean, she didn’t wear glitter, but I swear she had sparkles coming out of her pores. All the time. You might think it was just my love talking, but her family said the same thing. Renee was made of sunshine. Renee lived by an overarching belief: there is kindness in the world, and we need to do everything we can to find it where it resides and nurture it where it needs to grow. Renee was a Christian who knew that all religions teach the same essential truth: we are here to love each other, care for each other, and keep each other safe and whole.”
