Yes, the sport where they cross-country ski to shoot things.
There are three pretty wild stories out of the biathlon, so let’s take a look!
Let’s start with this one: Biathlete Sturla Holm Lægreid went viral after winning a bronze medal in the men’s 20km biathlon and then admitting to reporters he cheated on his girlfriend.
He told NRK (via the Guardian) after the race, “There is something I want to share with someone who may not be watching today. Half a year ago, I met the love of my life. The world’s most beautiful and nicest person. Three months ago, I made the mistake of my life and cheated on her, and I told her about that a week ago. This has been the worst week of my life.”
“I had the gold medal in life, and I am sure there are many people who will see things differently, but I only have eyes for her. Sport has come second these last few days. Yes, I wish I could share this with her.”
Then, we heard from his ex, who pretty much said, “Hell no, leave me alone.”
She told Norwegian outlet VG, “It’s hard to forgive. Even after a declaration of love in front of the whole world.” She went on, “I did not choose to be put in this position, and it hurts to have to be in it. We have had contact and he is aware of my opinions on this.”
After hearing her apology, the cheating biathlete released a statement saying he regretted sharing the story.
“I deeply regret sharing this personal story on what was a day of celebration for Norwegian biathlon. I am not quite myself these days, and not thinking clearly. My apologies go to Johann Olav, who deserved all the attention after winning gold. They also go to my ex-girlfriend, who unwillingly ended up in the media spotlight. I hope she is doing well. I cannot undo this, but I will now put it behind me and focus on the Olympics. I will not answer any further questions about this.”
But that’s not the only scandal. Let’s talk about some good ol’ fashioned credit card fraud.
French biathlete Julia Simon has won two golds at the 2026 Games, but she was also convicted of some pretty wild credit card fraud.
According to the BBC, she was given a three-month suspended prison sentence and fined 15,000 euros for stealing her French teammate’s (!!!) and physiotherapist’s credit cards and spending over 2,000 euros in online purchases.
Yes, you read that correctly, she stole her TEAMMATES’ credit card!!!
She explained at her court hearing, “I can’t explain it. I don’t remember doing it. I can’t make sense of it.”
The wildest part? In one of her 2026 Olympic gold medal races, the teammate whose credit card she stole finished all the way down in 80th place.
