“I worked as a cashier in the only late-night cafeteria on campus in the college town I lived in. I went six years with no harassment issues, until one night an obviously drunk student I’d never seen before came through my line. I rang him out, and as he was leaving, he leaned closer and said, ‘You’re beautiful. Have a good night.’ I just kinda rolled my eyes at the girl behind him and commented, ‘Someone had some beers tonight,’ before ringing her out, thinking nothing more about him. A few days later, he came back again, and I didn’t recognize him at first. Then he asked me for my number. I told him no and said I’m already in a relationship. He left. I thought that was it.”
“A few more nights go by, and he’s back in my line, drunk again, and asking if he can take me out. I tell him no, I’m engaged, and he needs to leave. The people in line behind him back me up, and as he’s leaving, I point him out to the other cashier. She says, ‘Yeah, he asked me for your number the other day.’ I brought him up to my supervisor later that night, who told me someone had called the office asking when I got out.”
