“Telling it to any group you are socialising with at that moment, whether in public or in their own homes. No one looks surprised or distracts from other conversations; it is just an expected announcement when leaving the group to go to the toilet. I do wonder if the British had a series of mass events where people just disappeared from groups around a table, sort of, ‘Blink, where did they go?’ events. It has thus become a tradition to announce toilet visits, so as not to worry folk.”
