“My ex-stepfather, whom I have a half-brother from and who raised me most of my young childhood, let his new wife (whose wedding I attended after they had known each other less than a year) write me a full-page response included with their declined RSVP because her name wasn’t written on the invitation envelope. She also went on a rant about all the things she didn’t like about me. So bizarre. Also, my in-laws helped me send the invites from an address list that I knew had all the guests, but not necessarily spouse names (especially newer ones), so it wasn’t like an intentional barb. And it absolutely allowed for a guest.”
“I cried for like two days, then said ‘good riddance.’ We didn’t speak for years, and they divorced after about two years. I’ve been married for 18 years. We are also back to non-speaking terms, so he just isn’t who I thought he was as a father figure anyway. Just gotta know when to cut your losses on these things. It’s usually a sign that the relationship isn’t healthy or worth the energy.”
