17. “Being a sports fanatic. Younger me would live and die on how my hometown teams were doing. Recently, I mentioned one of them was doing well and a friend joked, ‘What are you, a fair weather fan?’ which, years ago, would have been fighting words. However, it took me five seconds to respond, ‘Hell yeah. I’ve got a wife, two kids, a dog, a mortgage, the economy is stagnant, the world is on fire, and I have a lawn to mow.’ If ‘my’ team is winning, then yes, I’ll share in that joy. If not, I don’t have the energy, interest, or time to mope around. If that makes me a fake fan, so be it. I have a Costco run to make.”
