But at some point I started wondering if slang has always been this fun. Surely people in the past had their own little phrases and inside jokes too.
That thought sent me down a rabbit hole of old expressions, and that’s when I realized something important. The Victorians weren’t as prim as we imagine. They absolutely had slang, and some of it is surprisingly funny in a very modern way.
What I found genuinely feels like linguistic treasure. These Victorian gems had me laughing in absolute shambles, and I can already see myself using them in real life. Pantaloons, sadly, not included.

So yes, the people in corsets and pantaloons were out there dropping slang that still goes oddly hard today. If you end up borrowing any of these for real-life conversations, I fully support it. Tell us your favorite ones in the comments!
