I love animals in the most committed way possible. If replacing every human in my life with an animal were a viable lifestyle choice, I would have done it already.
And believe it or not, I think they know how to do life better than us. I recently came across a bunch of animal facts that made me look at their daily little routines in a whole new way. These tiny things they do make their lives calmer and far more put together than ours, and there’s no reason we can’t borrow a few of their habits. So here are some things animals do that are SOOO cute and makes it seem like they have cracked something we keep overcomplicating.
1.
Every morning, seahorse couples greet each other with full-on dance routines, moving through twists and twirls that can go on for minutes or even hours.
2.
Octopuses remember who wronged them, and they do not let it slide. If they don’t like you, they’ll aim a shell or a jet of water at you with the accuracy of someone who’s been rehearsing the moment all day.
3.
Japanese macaques soak in natural hot springs during the colder months, settling in together and letting the warmth take the edge off the day.
4.
Sea otters keep their favorite shells and snacks tucked into a little pouch under their arm, like the tiniest crossbody bag you’ve ever seen.
5.
Flying foxes sleep in big clusters, all wrapped up and tucked close to each other.
6.
Sun bears spend a surprising amount of their day scratching or full-on hugging trees, and that’s how they mark the spots that feel safest to them.
7.
African grey parrots often mimic the positive phrases they hear the most, essentially repeating compliments to their flock.
8.
Sandhill crane pairs kick off their mornings by belting out synchronized duets, basically acting like the world’s most committed karaoke duo.
9.
Manatees start their mornings by grazing slowly and drifting around in groups, basically holding the calmest brunch meetup imaginable.
10.
Whistling ducks have a little routine before bedtime where they call out softly to each other to confirm everyone’s close by.
11.
Prairie dogs greet each other by touching their front teeth together, which looks suspiciously like a kiss.
12.
Zebra finch pairs actually learn small duet songs together, and it becomes their signature way of staying connected. It’s basically their couple playlist, but way cuter and far more coordinated.
13.
Maned wolves communicate using soft, low barks that travel across long distances. It’s their way of staying aware of where everyone is so they don’t cross paths and create tension.
14.
Hornbill pairs spend the day delivering little snacks to each other, and it’s their way of keeping the relationship running smoothly.
15.
Male penguins hunt for the perfect pebble to give their partner. It’s basically the original “I saw this and thought of you.”
The more I look at these habits, the more I get why animals seem so unbothered. They just do what feels good and keep going. Maybe we don’t need a full lifestyle overhaul, maybe we just need a tiny animal-inspired moment here and there!
