As you might’ve heard, Cannes notably announced a pretty huge change to its dress code just a day before the festival began. “For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as in any other area of the festival. Voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theater are not permitted,” reads the event’s official charter. “The festival welcoming teams will be obligated to prohibit red carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules.”
The sudden change in dress code sparked a lot of buzz ahead of the event, especially when Halle Berry revealed that the attendees had hardly been given any notice about the new rules.
Explaining that she had to make a last-minute change to her outfit after learning that it violated the new rules, Halle said during the Cannes jury press conference, per Variety, “I had an amazing dress by Gupta that I cannot wear tonight because it’s too big of a train.”
