12 Times Celebs Dropped Cryptic Shade And Had The Internet Do The Math

In case you were in the mood to read into things, Justin Bieber definitely gave the internet something to work with when he posted a lengthy, cryptic message to his Instagram Stories last February about growth, letting go, and choosing love over “rules.” In the post, Justin reflected on trying—and failing—to live by expectations, writing that real change comes from surrender, faith, and releasing insecurities rather than forcing self-improvement. He even set the whole thing to “Free Fallin’” by John Mayer, which, naturally, added to the vibes.

The timing is what really sent fans spiraling, though. The post came amid reports that Justin had quietly unfollowed multiple celebrities, including Drake, The Weeknd, and Selena Gomez’s fiancé, Benny Blanco. Justin didn’t explain the unfollows or connect them directly to the message, but that didn’t stop the internet, obviously.
