11 WFH Workers Get Real About Whether They 'Take The P*ss'

1) “It sort of works both ways. Some days it feels like I’ve done nothing but fart about, other days I can go to 7pm working.”

“Probably works out in my favour overall.”

“I always think if the business wasn’t happy with my output, they would say so, so I don’t feel guilty meeting expectations and then enjoying my time left over,” u/DurgeDidNothingWrong agreed.

2) “No, I get my work done but without the pressure of needing to look busy when I’m not actually busy.”

“Exactly,” u/claireauriga responded. “I do just as much work as in the office, but I don’t need to mask in between bursts of activity. Which, honestly, then means I recharge and can get on to the next activity sooner.”

3) “No, because if I am ever caught out, I will lose the privilege of working from home.”

“I’ve worked from home for over 20 years. I’m not risking all the freedom I have by slacking,” u/No-Neighborhood2213 agreed.

4) “I’m WFH. I do mostly spend the time working, but I do get to do the odd chores and do bits of home stuff as well.”

“I don’t take the piss or push it to see what I can get away with though.”

“Same with me. WFH, it’s nice being able to take the kids to/from school and get a couple of little jobs done around the house at lunch time,” said u/Maximum_Scientist_85

“I don’t take the mick, though. I will work my hours the same as if I were in the office.”

5) “No, I’m burnt out AF and the work never ends.”

“There’s no ‘get my tasks done and then chill.’”

6) “I’m the opposite. When I’m in the office, it’s far too easy to get caught up talking to people and having a little wander.”

“At home, I’m more locked in, don’t normally bother with lunch, and there are fewer distractions. The only thing I’ll really do is make a few posts on Reddit as a mental pause to refocus.

“I’ve also sometimes stayed logged on working into the evening, which I never do in the office.”

7) “I’m equally adept at taking the piss in the office and at home.”

8) “I’ve taken the piss in an office 90% more than I do at home.”

“The difference is, I no longer have to pretend to look busy while in the office,” u/GotAnyNirnroot said.

9) “Oh no, I’m on Reddit at 12:36 on a Tuesday afternoon for strictly professional reasons.”

10) “I don’t take the piss, but I definitely work at a slower pace and less efficiently.”

“I  don’t WFH much for this reason, and I tend to give it my all when in the office, so I don’t feel particularly guilty about it. It’s more just a time to decompress and catch up on things.”

11) “I do and I don’t.”

“I always get all my work done on time, I always do it to a very high standard, I always attend every meeting, and I always make sure I’m at least in the vicinity of my laptop to answer messages, etc.

“But on some days I genuinely don’t have much to do, so on those days I’ll go to the gym, take the dog out, or do some housework.

“I think as long as you’re still doing your job, then don’t feel guilty about it.”
