“I recently saw a video about the social consequences of expressing emotion (men and women are both punished for it, just differently), and unsurprisingly, a large number of people said that they would feel uncomfortable if their male partner was crying. Which is so heartbreaking to me because if you see somebody that you allegedly love and care about, and they’re crying, how is your first response to be grossed out? It is so, so sad to me that so many men feel that they can never express their true emotions, even to those closest to them. It doesn’t help any of us.”
