Timothée Chalamet Is Getting Early Oscar Buzz For His Next Movie, And Everyone Is Saying The Same Thing

Roofman Review, Timothée Chalamet Oscar Buzz, & More

This week in Screen Time, I recommend going to see Channing Tatum’s new movie in theaters because it’s a perfect combo of comedy and heart. I also share what’s all over my FYP, like Timothée Chalamet getting early Oscar buzz. There’s also what we’ve got going on over on BuzzFeed Celeb’s YouTube channel, and I share which TV shows that only lasted one season are the absolute best. Let’s go!

Chad Powers — watch for: An oddball sports comedy with some heart

Whether you’re a football fan or not, Chad Powers does hold its own on the comedy front, thanks to Powell and an all-star lineup of costars, including Perry Mattfeld, Steve Zahn, Quentin Plair, Wynn Everett, Frankie Rodriguez, and more. While I think the show overall could be a little stronger, it’s still a good comedy to put on in the background. Who knows, you might find yourself more into it by the end than you initially think, like I did.

Roofman — watch for: Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst’s chemistry

Based on a true story, Roofman follows fugitive Jeffrey Manchester (Channing Tatum), who gets the nickname “Roofman” after stealing from several McDonald’s branches by entering them through the roof. However, he gained more notoriety after he escaped from prison by hiding underneath a prison bus, and then hid from the police by hiding inside a Toys “R” Us for several months in Charlotte, North Carolina. Eventually, he even ventures outside the store and falls in love with one of the employees.

This movie turned out to be a pleasant surprise and one of my favorites from the fall. Tatum and Kirsten Dunst’s chemistry really adds a nice layer to this movie, while Tatum is firing on all cylinders in one of his best movies in recent years. It’s a charming and heartfelt movie that leans heavily into Tatum’s strengths: humor and heart.

The Abbott Elementary teachers are back for another school year, so to celebrate, we had Quinta Brunson, Tyler James Williams, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Janelle James, Chris Perfetti, and William Stanford Davis play a game of Who’s Who to see how well they know each other. They revealed who is most likely to forget their lines, which one of them would win a Teacher of the Year award, who’s most likely to start laughing during a serious scene, and who is the over-texter in their cast’s group chat. Basically, they had a ton of fun playfully calling each other out and revealing just how fun Abbott Elementary is behind the scenes. You can watch the full video below:

This week at the New York Film Festival, fans were surprised when director Josh Safdie appeared on stage and introduced a “surprise” screening of Marty Supreme, his ambitious new movie with A24 that will open on Christmas Day. The film follows Marty Mauser (Timothée Chalamet), a ping pong star who strives for greatness as he seeks to build the sport in the US. Now, with the first screening of the movie having premiered, first reactions have hit the internet, and basically, it sounds like Chalamet should get ready for another Oscar nomination (and hopefully a win). Here are the best reactions:

What is the best TV show ever with only one season?

I am someone who loves a limited series, but I also find there are shows that were (wrongly) canceled after one season that are equally as good. So, I’ll give two answers. My favorite limited series is probably The Haunting of Hill House. I think it’s a perfect show, and Mike Flanagan is a king of horror for me.

As for a show that only got one season because it was canceled, I’ll have to go with Freaks and Geeks. I adore this show and still rewatch it almost every year. I mean, Linda Cardellini, c’mon!

Well, that’s all I’ve got for this week’s edition of Screen Time. Come back every week to get more TV and movie recommendations, find out which celebs we’re working with, and so much more!
