A24’s Warfare has gained the internet’s undivided attention.
The film, directed by Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Civil War), is based on Ray, a former U.S. Navy SEAL, experiences during the Iraq War.
Joseph Quinn from Gladiator II is a leading Petty Officer named Sam.
Will Poulter from The Bear is the Officer in Charge named Erik.
And D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai from Reservation Dogs is Ray Mendoza, a communicator.
The bottom line is the cast is stacked with handsome actors, so it should be no surprise that a promotional tour would have the thirsty internet in a frenzy.
Kit, Charles, Joseph, Will, and D’Pharaoh did an interview with Entertainment Weekly, where they revealed they got matching tattoos that read “Call On Me,” a callback to the film’s opening scene.
The cast also went into detail about the process of portraying soldiers and what it took to tell an authentic story of Navy SEALS.
They also revealed that they had assigned each other nicknames. Will was dubbed “Daddy,” Charles went by “Top,” Kit was nicknamed “Babyface,” Joseph was called “Funcle,” and D’Pharaoh had “DP” and “Doza.”
But, when a clip of Charles and Kit sharing a brief, friendly kiss went viral, the internet couldn’t contain itself.
Someone said, “they’re really going all out to get the girlies to watch a WAR movie.”
“The more promos and interviews they do, the more I’m convinced that the movie isn’t about war…,” another person wrote.
This person said, “The universe finally delivered, and I’m here for it.”
“This kiss was everything—nothing else matters right now. Shouldve been me tho,” another user wrote.
One person had no chill, writing, “I need them to do it again, longer, with tongue.. for research purposes.”
Finally, this person said, “Don’t care what this movie is about… tickets please!”
Alas, it’s obviously just a friendly kiss. But it does remind me of that time last year during Paris fashion week when Kit said that he probably has a bunch of shirtless pictures of Charles on his phone.
Warfare is in theaters on April 11.
